Impacts of smart and active packaging on the quality and storage period of ‘Barhi’ dates

The climacteric nature of ‘Barhi’ dates makes their shelf life very short after harvest. This research aimed to explore the impact using different packaging materials along with reducing negative effects ethylene gas on quality date fruit by determining changes in physical and chemical characteristics stored fruit. For this purpose, fruits were picked during Khalal stage three [carton boxes (control), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), equilibrium modified atmosphere (EMAP)] or without absorbent sachet (EAS) at 0 °C for 40 days. results indicated that EMAP bags EAS under gave highest properties all studied parameters compared control treatment. treatment recorded lowest quality, which lasted only 20 days cold storage before converting Rutab stage.
